Key Features to Help Identify Your Replacement Hanger

Hanger Anatomy

The replacable derailleur hanger is secured to the bike's frame using a fastener or fastener. A hanger can use up to 4 fasteners, but most hangers use one or two.

Axle/Hub Socket

The socket where the rear hub sits when the rear wheel is properly inserted and secured in the frame.

Rear Derailleur Hole

10mm x 1 threaded hole where the rear derailleur is attached to the hanger

Rear Derailleur B-Screw Tab

This tab is an important feature on any hanger and allows for the rear derailleur pulley clearance to be set. The flat side of the tab always faces towards the rear of the bike.

  • Note the orientation of the hanger on the frame. The hanger shown on the white frame attaches to the frame from the inside. The hanger on the black frame attaches to the frame from the outside.
  • Fasteners shown here on the white frame are M3 x 8, and are inserted through the frame and threaded in to the hanger. Make a note if your hanger is threaded for the fasteners, or if your frame is threaded.
  • The hanger on the black frame uses a chainring style nut and bolt. Hangers using a chainring bolt typically place the nut on the inside of the dropout and the bolt on the outside of the dropout (as shown).
  • The third photo to the left shows the pocket machined in the frame's dropout where the hanger sits.

Dropout SaverDropout Savers

Dropout Savers are made from aircraft-quality steel. In most cases, the thread strength of the saver is greater than the thread strength of the original dropout. Dropout Savers are precision-machined to exacting tolerances and plated for corrosion resistance.

How to use the Dropout Savers

The Dropout Saver system is an alternative to replacing badly bent or damaged derailleur dropouts. Rather than replacing the bent dropout at considerable cost and effort, simply follow a few easy steps to repair the existing dropouts:

  1. Use the dropout saver drill to drill out the damaged threads.
  2. Measure the dropout width to determine whether to use Saver DS-1 or DS-2
    • For narrow dropouts (less than 7mm), use DS-2
    • For wide dropouts (wider that 7mm), use DS-1
  3. Install saver in the back of the dropout and realign dropout using a gear hanger alignment tool.
  4. Install derailleur and tighten while holding saver with 16mm cone wrench.
